Biography
Zam is the Founder and Artistic Director of Arts for Action Cares Limited, a non-profit socially engaged arts organisation. He is currently pursuing his Master of Gerontology at the Singapore University of Social Sciences with the support of the National Arts Council (NAC) Arts Scholarship 2025.
As an applied theatre practitioner with over 15 years of experience working at the intersections of applied theatre, community engagement, drama education, and performance-making, his work is defined by its cross-sector, intergenerational, and interdisciplinary nature, engaging primarily with emerging theatre-makers and the community.
He is also a fellow at the Singapore International Foundation’s Arts for Good (A4G) programme, T:>Works’ Artistic Directors Academy (ADA), and Dialogue Centre. His work spans directing, facilitating, teaching, performing, and producing for productions and festivals in Singapore and internationally.
Beyond the stage, he worked extensively with diverse communities, including students, residents, children and youth, elderly and seniors, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable populations. This multifaceted journey has honed his sensitivity and ability to engage effectively with those he serves, empowering them to reach their full potential through the strength of community. At the heart of his practice is a commitment to telling truths with dignity, discernment, and care through an artistic lens.
He has held many leadership roles within and beyond the arts sector. Key accomplishments include co-leading an interdisciplinary team of dancers living with Down-Syndrome and seniors to deliver impactful eldercare programmes, securing a $20,000 Singapore International Foundation Arts for Good 2023 grant for an intergenerational collaboration between communities in India and Singapore, earning recognition from MSF ComLink @ Jurong West for partnership development at Tak Takut Kids Club, and representing Singapore at the International Community Arts Festival in Rotterdam in 2017, 2021 and 2023.
